Since centuries, the hot fruit of the Cayenne plant known as the Capsicum Annuum has been utilized as an excellent culinary spice for treating a wide range of diseases and medical ailments. Cayenne Pepper is found to be rich in healthy compounds including Vitamins A, B, C, potassium, calcium, and others. Various studies have revealed that Cayenne Pepper helps in rebuilding the stomach tissues along with the peristaltic action in the intestines. Cayenne Pepper contains an active component referred to as Capsaicin. In the year 2004, a team of researchers led by Dr. Sanjay K. Sirvastava and his colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine was successful in treating pancreatic cells with the help of Capsaicin. The team found that it helped in the disruption of the mitochondrial function and induction of apoptosis in the cancerous cells without causing any effect on the normal pancreatic cells.
