While we might concern less over what we eat on a daily basis, dietary habits have been recently linked with increased risks of developing different types of cancers. Cancer has risen to be the 2nd most leading cause of deaths happening around in the United States of America. It accounts for one in as many as four deaths in the country. Cancer not only causes immense pain and grief, but it is also known to take up a huge portion of one’s savings.
While most of us tend to link cancer with habits like smoking and drinking alcohol on a daily basis, there are certain dietary habits as well that have been linked to the increased risks of developing cancers. A new study released by Tufts has presented a report that provides the association of specific types of cancers with particular food intake. In the given study, the researchers revealed that diet-related aspects account for around 80,110 cases of new invasive cancers in the year 2015.
Dietary Habits Linked with Increased Cancer Risks
In the given study, it was observed that a significant number of cancer-related cases was linked to consuming a poor diet. The cases for cancers included colorectal cancer, uterine cancer, mouth & larynx cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, and stomach cancer.
Here are some of the top dietary habits that were observed in the given study:
- Low Intake of Dairy Products: The low intake of dairy products, including milk, yogurt, cheese, and others have been quite convincing towards providing relevant evidence with respect to colorectal cancer. Explaining the reason, the study states that dairy foods and products tend to be rich in calcium. As such, this reduced the overall risk of developing colorectal cancer.
- Low Intake of Whole Grains: The poor dietary habit of consuming whole grains to a minimum has been most associated with cancer cases –with a strong link to developing colorectal cancer.
- Higher Intake of Processed Meat: Those who consume processed meat on a daily basis are at a higher risk of developing colorectal cancer and stomach cancer.
- Low Intake of Fruits & Veggies: While you are told to continue consuming fruits & veggies, its importance has been linked with reducing the risks of developing cancer when taken religiously on a daily basis.
