Signs and Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer has been termed as the silent killer, this is because it is hard to identify its signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer at the early stages. Unfortunately, currently, there is no specific screening test for ovarian cancer which makes the detection of this cancer very tough. Majority of the cases are identified in its advanced stages.
The survival rate is higher than that of 90 percent when diagnosed at the early stages that is Stage 1A or 1B, however, it is very tough to detect ovarian cancer at this stage. Approximately, the doctors are able to diagnose only 20 percent of ovarian cancers at the earliest stages.
The signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer are too ambiguous or mild that they are easily neglected by most of the women. However, the signs should not be overlooked if they prolong for quite a time.

Have a glance at some of the early signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.

The treatment depends on the stage as well as the spread of cancer and also the overall health or patient. Ovarian cancer can be treated using the following approaches:

  • Chemotherapy.
  • Surgery.
  • Radiation Therapy.
  • Targeted Therapy.
  • Hormone Therapy.

It is very easy to treat ovarian cancer in the early stages, however, it is not an easy task to detect because the ovaries are deeply situated within the abdominal cavity. This makes difficult to feel the tumor in early stages. Also, there is no specific or routine diagnostic screening available for ovarian cancer. In the advanced stages as the tumor grows it starts pressing against the bladder and rectum which causes discomfort.
