Signs and Symptoms of Lung Cancer

Knowing the early signs and symptoms associated with lung cancer is essential to avoid your end at the last stage! According to a study, most of the lung cancer patients are not diagnosed until the tumor has spread to diverse organs. Lack of awareness is attributed as the key reason behind this! Though, it is difficult to identify the signs and symptoms of lung cancer in the early stage as lung cancer does not cause such noticeable signs. Still, gaining some knowledge on them can help you mitigate the risk of losing your life. Most of the lung cancer symptoms seem slight but as cancer grows, they may become intense or severe.

  • Coughing- It’s not about usual coughing it’s about a persistent cough which does not go away with simple medication. A patient suffering from lung cancer also feels pain while coughing.
  • Loss of appetite- Most of the cancers lead to variations in appetite. Generally, patients with lung cancer don’t feel hungry for long hours which further leads to weight loss.
  • Chronic infections- Persistent infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis are also counted among the early signs of lung cancer
  • Difficulty in breathing- Noisy breathing or wheezing problem! Sometimes lung cancer patient also face the problem of shortness of breath.
  • Fatigue- It is one of the most debilitating and common symptoms experienced by the people suffering from lung cancer. They can feel excessively tired or weak even after taking rest or sleep.

At advanced stages of lung cancer, it may affect the liver, brain, and bones. Therefore, the patients may notice severe symptoms in their bodies. Such as:

  • Jaundice
  • Dizziness, limbs which become dumb or weak and headache
  • Lumps in collar bone or neck area
  • Bone pain
  • Swelling of neck, face or arms

Different effective techniques have been designed to detect lung cancer at early stage. However, Chest X-rays and low-dose CT scans are the widely used practices. So, once you notice any of these signs in your body, just go to see an oncologist!
