“Having diagnosed with cancer”- the term that each one of us never wants to hear or admit. There are hundreds of cancer that might same unique set of signs and symptoms. One of the most common among all the types is blood cancer.
Blood cancer is a condition that begins with the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that further prevents the blood cells from carrying out their normal functions like, clotting and fighting infections.
Blood cancer affects the cells in the blood, bone marrow or in the lymph nodes. Most of the signs and symptoms of blood cancer are typically related to having a low number of blood cells.
Having a low count of red blood cells is termed as anemia, if there are not enough white blood cells the condition is called neutropenia, low count of platelets is termed as thrombocytopenia and if all three types of cells have a low count the condition is termed as pancytopenia.
General signs and symptoms of Blood Cancer
Blood cancer symptoms can be quite vague and most of them resemble with cold or flu. However, it is always beneficial to seek advice from the doctor if the symptoms are persistent.

- Fever or chills,
- Coughing or chest pain,
- Loss of appetite,
- Bone pain,
- Night sweats,
- Sudden weight loss,
- Fatigue and weakness,
- Swollen lymph nodes.

- Breath shortening,
- Cold feet and hands,
- Irregular heartbeat,
- Pale skin,
- Chest pain.

- Frequent infections
- Sweating or chills,

- Frequent bruises,
- Easy and prolonged bleeding,
- Tiny red spots on the skin,
- Enlarged spleen.
Based on the factors like the patient’s age, overall health and cancer stage the treatment method is proposed. Blood cancer can be effectively treated through chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
When detected at an early stage, any cancer can be treated efficiently. However, sometimes the symptoms appear at the advanced stage. With the advancement in technology, it has now become easy to diagnose blood cancer at an early stage effectively.
