A team of researchers has come up with an all-new, revolutionary drug named FFW that could potentially help in the treatment of liver cancer or HCC (Hepatocellular Carcinoma). This discovery by the researchers has opened several doors for coming up with highly effective treatments for liver cancer with fewer side effects.

HCC (Hepatocellular Carcinoma) or primary liver cancer serves to be a major form of fast-growing cancer in the human beings. Patients having HCC are generally known to survive typically for around 11 months after the disease diagnosis. HCC is known to account for more than 90 percent of the major forms of liver cancers. Thus, it poses a major health concern –  especially in the Asia Pacific region.

In the search for the potential treatment of liver cancer, the researchers have come up with the revolutionary drug FFW in the treatment of the disease with minimal side effects. In the given study, the team deeply studied SALL4 –a protein that is associated with the growth of tumors – as the prognosis maker and the respective drug target for the treatment of HCC along with other forms of cancers including leukemia and lung cancer.

The drug molecules that are known to work upon SALL4 usually require the particular target proteins to contain a small pocket in the 3D structure wherein the particular drug could reside and implement its effects. The targeting of the SALL4-NuRD interaction that serves to be the cancer cell-specific target tends to represent an exciting scope for the overall development of the therapeutic options in the potential treatment of liver cancer.

In the latest research, the researchers have also demonstrated some effective strategy towards accurately targeting oncogenes – which was previously considered as un-druggable. Moving forward, the researchers can generate great scope for the overall treatment of liver cancer through effective drug therapy.
