A recent study reveals that when a mice sample was given curcumin supplements, it helped in delaying the overall mesothelioma tumor growth in the body.
A team of researchers from Italy found that curcumin supplements helped in delaying the overall growth of mesothelioma tumor in mice samples. Curcumin is a plant-based compound that is most commonly found in Turmeric –known for its host of health benefits. The scientists made use of the compound or supplement that is commercially available –“Curcumin –C3 Complex or Bioperine.” This is the first time that a study involving curcumin has been successful in proving results for the treatment of mesothelioma in mice.
What is Curcumin-C3 Complex or Bioperine?
Curcumin is a natural bioactive compound that is naturally found in turmeric. Turmeric is the most common kitchen spice –the one known for imparting the characteristic yellow color to the food and also known for its plethora of health benefits.
There are several scientific studies that reveal the fact that curcumin, along with other curcuminoid compounds in Turmeric tends to have powerful health benefits. These compounds are known for their anti-inflammatory properties and also for their ability to fight the mechanism of oxidation caused due to free radicals in the body.
The Curcumin-C3 Complex or Bioperine is a commercially available supplement that comes with a standardized extract of the curcumin compound that is available naturally. The supplement is known to contain three types of curcuminoids as well as piperine (an alkaloid found in black pepper). The combination of the two compounds helps in improving the bioavailability of the same by as much as 2000 percent.
Mice Responding to Mesothelioma Treatment with Curcumin
After implanting human-based mesothelioma tumors in mice samples, the scientists observed that the mice that received curcumin supplements reflected slower growth of the tumors.
As per the theory of the study, the researchers state that the curcumin supplements helped in reducing the overall ability of the mesothelioma tumors to produce new blood vessels for the tumors. Moreover, it also helped in increasing cell death with the process of apoptosis.
There have been previous studies as well that suggest the fact that curcumin helps in enhancing the overall effectiveness of cancer drugs in the body. The research team from Italy states that the standardized curcumin supplement can also be helpful in slowing tumor growth in human-based samples.
