Apart from genetic factor, colon cancer can be kept at bay if you take care of your diet. The risk of this disease increases with age and maintaining a diet benefiting your gut health can protect you. Here are six foods that can push away the risk of colorectal cancer.

Recently, a new research has revealed that certain leafy green vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, and kale can help prevent colon cancer, regulating the gut’s health. The digestion of these vegetables produces a compound called indole-3-carbinol I3C that lowers inflammation in mice with cancer and lowers the risk of colon cancer in mice altogether. This compound decreased the number of tumors in mice with colon cancer.

Cheese is commonly regarded as not so healthy food; however, its moderate intake can do wonders for your health. It has a rich content of calcium and good calcium level is known to lower colon cancer risk. Adding a slice of cheese into your sandwich can benefit your gut.

A diet which is high in whole grains also lowers the risk of colon cancer. Brown rice, whole wheat bread instead of white bread, pastas can lower the risk of colon cancer. In contrast, a diet containing processed meats and red meat increases the risk of colon cancer.

Lycopene is a phytochemical known to reduce the risk of colon cancer. Tomatoes and tomatoes containing products like ketchup contains lycopene. Adding few tomatoes in your sandwich or salad can cut away the risk of colon cancer. It effectively inhibits the growth of colon cancer cells.

Fish such as salmon and mackerel have a compound called Omega-3s that lowers the risk of colon cancer. Patients of colon cancer ingesting salmon or mackerel can actually diminish the possibility of dying from this disease. Swap that piece of red meat steak with a good piece of salmon and help your body fight colon cancer!

Lastly, food with higher content of fiber can keep colon cancer at bay. Especially, kidney beans and legumes are full of fiber, lowering colon cancer risk. Beans are thought to prevent any form of tumors producing in the colorectal area.
