If you’re looking for a delicious, nutritious and convenient snack, why not pick up a banana? They’re one of the most popular fruits around the world and can provide so many health benefits.

Bananas are rich in fiber as well as plenty of antioxidants. They provide high levels of potassium, vitamin B6, C, manganese, copper, and magnesium. At only about 100 calories, having one will keep you satiated and supply you with plenty of energy for a good portion of the day.

Pectin, one of the more important natural compounds found within the plant, can help digestion and moderate blood sugar levels. It’s also one of the reasons why many weight loss diets include bananas. It helps control appetite while at the same time promoting beneficial bacteria in your stomach.

Potassium is an essential mineral for a healthy heart, and diets rich in potassium can have up to a 27% lower risk of heart disease. Just one banana contains about 10% of the daily recommended intake, and a decent amount of magnesium, which is also important for heart health.

One long term study suggested that women who regularly have bananas, on average two or three times a week, were up to 33% less likely to develop kidney disease. Similar studies have linked them with a lower incidence of kidney cancer.

Additionally, bananas contain small amounts of the amino acid tryptophan, which is converted into a feel-good chemical called serotonin in the brain. Low levels of vitamin B6 and serotonin have been linked to depression, while higher levels may be protective.

Packed with minerals and vitamins, tasty and healthy, bananas are a great natural option for every situation.
