The incidence of prostate cancer has been increasing among men, gaining the attention of the oncology researchers. Studies show that a modified diet excluding three specific types of food can help prevent prostate cancer. A diet low in simple sugars and saturated fat, with an excess of fruits and vegetables and fibers, is generally recommended for its prevention, according to the directions from the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.

One of the types of food to be avoided is red meat and processed meat. Heterocyclic amines (HCAs) are carcinogens that are present in well-cooked meat, increasing the risk of prostate cancer. High temperature during grilling or boiling the meat releases these carcinogens. WHO (world health organization) has also recommended eschewing beef, pork and processed meat like hot dogs and sausages for preventing prostate cancer. Protein sources such as fresh or canned fish, salmon, beans, legumes (lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans, nuts), poultry like chicken and turkey (skinless) should be added to the diet instead.

Another type is Dairy Products whose extra ingestion can also increase the risk of prostate cancer. Drinking whole milk can increase the risk of prostate cancer according to a research appearing in the Journal of Nutrition. Even skimmed milk with low fat can trigger minor stages of this cancer. Hence, dairy products like cheese, milk, butter, cream cheese, ice-cream which have a lower content of fat should replace full-fat dairy products. Alternatives like coconut or almond milk, flax milk, rice milk, soy milk, cashew milk should be used.

Lastly, the reduction of alcohol consumption also matters a lot. Alcohol actively increases the risk of prostate cancer. Fresh juices, beers and wines without alcohol composition, coffee or tea should replace alcohol. You can drink your favorite cocktail with no alcohol in it. Alcohol intake should be restricted as much as possible.

Together with these three factors, you can have a good healthy diet that can prevent prostate cancer and many other health problems. Doctors actively suggest that a modified diet such as this can work better than the conventional method of treating prostate cancer.
